Grant Horner Plan - Day 70

John 2
"This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him." vs 11
Notice as you read in the New Testament that Jesus says woe to those who did not believe, and if the miracles that Jesus performed were done in other places, such as Sodom & Gomorrah they would've repented.
The disciples believed!
"Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: 'Passion for God's house will consume me.'" vs 17 (see Psalm 69:9 - from yesterday's reading).

"After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said." vs 22
vs 23-25 are interesting that Jesus didn't trust anyone because "he knows each person's heart."

Exodus 20

The 10 Commandments

1. You must have no other god but me.
2. Don't make yourself an idol - I "am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods."
Trouble will come for those who reject him.
"But I lavish unfailing love...on those who love me and obey my commands."
3. You must not misuse the name of the LORD your God - those who do will not go unpunished.
4. Remember to observe the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy (set-apart). You can work 6 days, but on the 7th it is a day of rest dedicated to the LORD.
5. Honour your father and mother. Then you will have a long, full life in the land...
6. You must not murder.
7. You must not commit adultery - you have heard it said...but I say, whoever looks at a woman with lust has committed adultery with her in his heart already.
8. You must not steal.
9. You must not testify falsely against your neighbour.
10. You must not covet anything of your neighbours (house, wife, possessions).

All the law and the prophets are summed up with this: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, would, mind and strength. And love your neighbour as you love yourself.

“Don’t be afraid,” Moses answered them, “for God has come in this way to test you, and so that your fear of him will keep you from sinning!” vs 20

1 Thessalonians 5

We are children of the light and of the day; we don't belong to darkness and night.
Let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armour of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.
For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us.
So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
Be patient with everyone.
See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.
Always be joyful
Never stop praying
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.
Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said.
Hold on to what is good.
Stay away from every kind of evil
Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

Proverbs 8
I, wisdom was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries.
Wisdom says:
Whoever finds me finds life and receives favour from the LORD.
All who hate me love death.

1 Samuel 21
This chapter reminded me of what God says, "desire mercy, not sacrifice."

Jeremiah 4
God of mercy again:
"O Israel, if you wanted to return to me, you could. You could throw away your detestable idols and stray away no more. Then when you swear by my name, saying, 'As surely as the LORD lives;' you could do so with truth, justice, and righteousness. Then you would be a blessing to the nations of the world, and all people would come and praise my name."
"Plow up the hard ground of your hearts! Do not waste your good seed among thorns. Surrender your pride and power. Change your hearts before the LORD, or my anger will burn like an unquenchable fire because of all your sins.
Your own actions have brought this upon you. This punishment is bitter, piercing you to the heart.
My people are foolish and do not know me. They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right!
The Lord has been so patient with Israel, chance after chance.
God is merciful and patient with us, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

Acts 14
Paul and Barnabas preached with such power that a great number of both Jews and Greeks became believers.
The Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.
"Paul realized he had faith to be healed. So Paul called to him in a loud voice, 'Stand up!' And the man jumped to his feet and started walking."
I believe but help my unbelief!
In the past he permitted all nations to go their own ways, but he never left them without evidence of himself and his goodness. For instance, he sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts.
They encouraged the other believers.
Encouraging them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.

I am on day 66 of the Grant Horner reading plan with my wife. We are quite enjoying it and have been getting quite the overview of the whole Bible this way, plus it is amazing to see how much of it relates with one another. Example: Reading in Job about his suffering, and then reading in Psalm about David's suffering and crying out to the Lord and praising God through it all, very inspiring!. I started this blog to put notes of what I am highlighting as I read. Sometimes there are questions, sometimes just thoughts I am having while reading.
