Grant Horner Plan - Day 69

John 1
All who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God - Jn 1:12
Jesus revealed God to us Jn. 1:18
Jesus is the Lamb of God Jn. 1:36
Jesus is the Messiah that was spoken and written about by Moses & the Prophets Jn. 1:45
Jesus is the stairway to heaven - the way to heaven. Jn. 1:51 (Jn. 14:6)

Exodus 19
Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. Ex. 19:5

Hebrews 4
God's promise of rest has been since the beginning - "for only we who believe can enter his rest". Heb. 4:1-3
Those who first heard the good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God Heb. 4:6
God's rest is there for people to enter. Heb. 4:6 - we need to not only be hearers of the word, but doers as well otherwise we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. Jms 1:22-25

"So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall." Hebrews 4:11
"For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable." - Hebrews 4:12-13
"So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." Hebrews 4:14-16
That is a comforting message to us as believers.
We can come boldly to the throne of God!
We don't need to shrink back, come before him!
Repent!
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9

1 Thessalonians 4
1 Thessalonians 4:1-12
Stay away from sexual sin!
Control your own body - have self-control!
Live in holiness and honour.
Live differently than this sex-crazed world.
Whoever disobeys these rule is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to us!

I may be back in the position of believers who have "fallen asleep"/died, will be in the ground resting until the Lord Jesus returns...based on 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, however based on 2 Cor. 5:8, that is the biggest one showing that when we die we will go directly to the Lord.
How it has been explained is that our spirits will go to be with the Lord, but then at the resurrection of the dead our bodies will be caught up and joined together...I will have to read further on this matter.

Job 7
I wonder why there is so much talk of sea monsters and dragons in Job? See Job 7:12
Job believes that his pain and suffering are because he sinned.
It seems that that is often the case, but not always.

Psalm 69
O God, you know how foolish I am;
my sins cannot be hidden from you.
Don't let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me.
Don't let me cause them to be humiliated.
Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.
When I weep and fast, they scoff me.
But I keep praying to you, LORD.
In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation.
The descendants of those who obey him will inherit the land,
and those who love him will live there in safety.

Proverbs 7
Avoid the immoral woman!
Whether it is in person, on the phone, on the internet, wherever she may be!
In this chapter she is lurking around, searching for some fool to be with her and blow his money!
While listening to the NIV Live Experience with this chapter today, I pictured in my mind the wires leading to our houses that have her trying to get into our places, and we need to stop her! Block her!
"You're the one I was looking for!
I came out to find you, and here you are!" vs 15
Part of our problem is that the Devil knows that it's all about me me me.
So, if he can make us feel special, then we can easily fall for his schemes.
If we believe the lie that we are the one that she is looking for!
No! She is looking for anyone to ruin!
Anyone to bring the money.
"So she seduced him with her pretty speech and enticed him with her flattery."
"He followed her at once, like an ox going to the slaughter.
He was like a stag caught in a trap awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart.
He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life." vs. 22-23

"So listen to me, my sons,
and pay attention to my words.
Don't let your hearts stray away toward her.
Don't wander down her wayward path.
For she has been the ruin of many;
many men have been her victims.
Her house is the road to the grave.
Her bedroom is the den of death." vs. 24-27

1 Samuel 20
1 Samuel 19 has Saul asking Jonathan and others to assassinate David, but in chapter 20, Jonathan seems to know nothing about it.
After looking at this and talking about this with my wife, she was helpful in the situation and I see that between chapter 19 and 20 may be years, and Jonathan had talked with Saul regarding the situation (as my wife pointed out).

Jeremiah 3

God is comparing idolatry to adultery and prostitution.
"Yet you say to me, 'Father, you have been my guide since my youth.
Surely you won't be angry forever!
Surely you can forget about it!'
So you talk, but you keep on doing all the evil you can." vs 4-5

Israel is first confronted, and now it's Judah's turn:
"So now the land has been polluted. But despite all this, her faithless sister Judah has never sincerely returned to me. She has only pretended to be sorry. I, the LORD, have spoken!" vs 9-10
But God is a merciful God:
"O Israel, my faithless people,
come home to me again,
for I am merciful.
I will not be angry with you forever.
Only acknowledge your guilt.
Admit that you have rebelled against the LORD your God and committed adultery against him by worshiping idols under every green tree. Confess that you refused to listen to my voice."
vs 12-13
"They will no longer stubbornly follow their own evil desires." vs 17
"I thought to myself,
'I would love to treat you as my own children!'
I wanted nothing more than to give you this beautiful land-
the finest possession in the world.
I looked forward to your calling me 'Father,'
and I wanted you never to turn from me." vs 19
"Let us now lie down in shame
and cover ourselves with dishonour,
for we and our ancestors have sinned
against the LORD our God.
From our childhood to this day
we have never obeyed him." vs 25

Acts 13
When the governor saw what had happened (the sorcerer was blinded), he became a believer, for he was astonished at the teaching about the Lord. vs 12
Jesus is one of David's descendants, who is God's promised Saviour! vs 23
"this message of salvation has been sent to us!" vs 26b
"We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God's sight..." vs 38b-39a
"It was necessary that we first preach the word of God to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will offer it to the Gentiles. For the Lord gave us this command when he said, 'I have made you a light to the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.'" vs 46-47
"all who were chosen for eternal life became believers." vs 48
NIV Cultural Study Bible: appointed for eternal life. Most Jewish people believed that they themselves were the ones appointed to eternal life, but Luke includes here believing Gentiles.

New Spirit-Filled Life Bible: The primary significance of the phrase appointed to eternal life is not theological but historical, as Luke traces the spread of the gospel from its Jewish origins to the Gentile world. This reference underscores God’s initiative in individual salvation. Throughout the Bible there are references to God’s hand of providence influencing people and altering the course of human history. Every Christian, in retrospect, can see how God carefully orchestrated particular events that changed his or her life forever. See Prov. 16:9; Dan. 4:34, 35; Acts 2:22–24; Eph. 1:3–5.

Grant Horner Plan - Day 70

John 2 "This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him." vs 11 Notice as you read in the New Testament that Jesus says woe to those who did not believe, and if the miracles that Jesus performed were done in other places, such as Sodom & Gomorrah they would've repented. The disciples believed! "Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: 'Passion for God's house will consume me.'" vs 17 (see Psalm 69:9 - from yesterday's reading). "After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said." vs 22 vs 23-25 are interesting that Jesus didn't trust anyone because "he knows each person's heart." Exodus 20 The 10 Commandments 1. You must have no other god but me. 2. Don't make yourself an idol - I "am a jealous God who will n...
I am on day 66 of the Grant Horner reading plan with my wife. We are quite enjoying it and have been getting quite the overview of the whole Bible this way, plus it is amazing to see how much of it relates with one another. Example: Reading in Job about his suffering, and then reading in Psalm about David's suffering and crying out to the Lord and praising God through it all, very inspiring!. I started this blog to put notes of what I am highlighting as I read. Sometimes there are questions, sometimes just thoughts I am having while reading.
